A "ballast" is an electronic component that regulates voltage in lighting. The patented Axis Daylight Harvesting Dimming Ballast is a new technology that transforms the ballast, a once standard lighting industry staple, into a dynamic energy saving system that can reduce lighting energy costs by up to 70%. The Axis Ballast utilizes an individual photo sensor to automatically adjust the amount of electrical current flowing to the light fixture and then dims or increases lighting in conjunction with the amount of available sunlight.

Retrofit Applications

Any fixture that is in an area with daylight contribution can be easily retrofitted with the Axis Daylight Dimming ballast. No additional wiring or controls are necessary. The ballasts work well with motion sensors, and existing control systems at the panel or switch level. If you are installing skylights in an existing facility the Axis ballast is the easiest solution available to upgrade the lighting system. By changing out the ballasts and leaving the original fixtures the project will exceed the energy savings anticipated with installing expensive new T-8 energy efficient fixtures while dramatically lowering the initial cost of the project. Retrofitting existing fixtures is an attractive choice because of the fine tuning feature Axis ballasts offer. Instead of making a 2 or 3 lamp fixture out of a fixture with 4 lamps, the existing fixture can be retrofitted and then tuned to the light level of the proposed retrofit. This saves the time and expense of buying "kits" to reposition the lamps and all of the associated labor that follows. Simply install the 2, 3 or 4 lamp Axis ballast you need for the job and fine tune the lamp output in 10% increments.
